My wife collects various collector plates. These kind of plates are for display only and they are not food safe. My wife would like to use some of these as serving dishes for hor dourves. I don't know much/anything about slumping but wondered if I could use clear glass that was food-safe and slump it to match the shape of the collector plate and use it to lay-over the top of it. If the shape wasn't perfect, I could use clear cabinet door bumpers as little feet. These would also prevent the clear plate from sliding over the collector plate. Is there something I'm missing or other things to consider with such an idea. I'm guessing that it wouldn't bee too hard but don't know how to progress.

Ideas, comments?

Don’t use your plates? LOL

I would think you could make a mold of one of the plates, assuming they are the same size, if not several molds.  From those molds or mold you could take clear System 96 glass and make new plates that would fit over your existing plates.  My concern would be having glass on glass you would scratch the plates you are collecting.  Your pad idea might work, maybe even some green felt that you could cut into smaller pieces and do the same thing.
