About Us
Suevel Studios has been owned and operated by husband and wife team, Eric and Markay Suevel since 1980. During that time Suevel Studios has gained a reputation as one of Chicago's premiere stained glass studios.

Eric Suevel

Eric brings over thirty years of stained glass experience to the studio. Originally learning from his Uncle Ben as a kid, Eric began taking lessons from several art schools in the mid 80's and has continued to expand his knowledge in glass through classes, self-study and just plain hands-on experience. In school, Eric received several art awards and has been recognized in local papers for his efforts. Eric has been a Firefighter/Paramedic for the past 28 years. He currently works for the Des Plaines Fire Department on his days off from the store.

Markay Suevel

As an ordained minister with a Masters Degree in Divinity, Markay brings an interesting liturgical perspective and understanding to the stained glass business. One of the classes Markay offers is a "History and Theology of Stained Glass." Markay took her first class in stained glass 20 years ago and has continued to update her knowledge with classes, reading and working at the studio. She also comes from a large family of highly skilled and awarded artists.

George Porro

Born in Argentina, George came to the United States as a young man and went to work for Fugitti Studios doing piecemeal work. He brings a wide range of knowledge to the studio with over 40 years of stained glass experience from Fugitti Studios, Stained Glass City and Tiffany Nouveau in the early 70's. With a solid foundation in stained glass work, George does primarily repair and restoration work for the studio.

Denise Fitzsimmons

After a career of teaching and educational publishing, Denise has focused her attention on developing her talents as an artist.  Her areas of expertise include stained and fused glass along with mosaics.

Patty Wojtowicz

With a background in education, Patty has taught at the elementary school and college level. From an early age, she was involved in numerous art classes in various media. For the past four years, Patty has focused on glass art, in particular stained and fused glass.

Some of our other Instructors:

Colette Molyneaux

Colette, or "Charlie" as she is known to many of us, instructs our bead-making and PMC classes.

Lisa Black

Lisa Black began teaching as an expression of her enthusiasm for the mosaic art form and process.  Her lessons use various materials and multiple techniques to help students discover and nurture their inner artist.  She has been involved with creating group murals with several different school groups and has been teaching mosaic classes in various venues.  Lisa is a member of both the Society of American Mosaic Artists and the Contemporary Mosaic Artists group.

Other Members of the Studio Family

Eric and Markay's children, Korissa Suevel Calcagno--a Graduate of Elmhurst College with a degree in art--and their three sons, Joshua, Ryan and Justin, also assist at the studio in the retail area and with teaching classes.
